today while i was waiting to meet a truck, a Flame Robin, dressed to kill in his bright orange-red waistcoat came to talk to me while I waited in my car. He had a lot to say, and I was delighted to have his company and listen to his animated chatter. Last week, same place, we met for the first time and he chatted away as if we were old friends.
I don't speak Robin but i wish I did, as he knows so much about a world of which I am completely ignorant. Language comes in different forms, but we focus on spoken or written language of our community, for me English. But or community is broader, and Robins are part of that community, and my Robin friend was trying to communicate with me and all I could do was nod and smile.
A google search tells me about the courtship rituals, where they live, and details of their plumage. I learnt about their nest construction of soft dry grass, moss, bark, spiders web, feathurs and fur. Google tells me where to look for these nests in forests with White Gum Eucalyptus viminalis, and Cabbage Gum Eucalyptus pauciflora,
