Slender Honey-Myrtle Melaleuca gibbosa
Slender Honey-Myrtle is an extremely beautiful plant with small leaves and gorgeous purple pom-pom flowers covering the plant in spring and summer. Grows up to 1.5 m high x 1.5 m wide and is extremely tolerant in most situations from the coast, to rivers and inland frosty places. This plant is salt and lime tolerant.
The purple bottlebrushes can be used to make a sweet tea. Pick the flowers and pour over boiling water and allow to steep for a few minutes. Drain off the flowers and enjoy your sweet tea. As you practice your honey-myrtle tea you will soon get to know how many flowers you require to acquire the right sweetness. For a cold drink make as you would a tea and allow to cool. Dilute with cold water to taste and serve with ice.
