Alpine Mint has a distinctive mint flavour but is quite different from regular mint that is used in toothpaste, chewing gum, etc. When you crush the leaves you will recognize a gorgeous mint aroma and the taste is sensational. Chop leaves finely and use with chocolate, sauces or dessert dishes. The leaves can be used fresh or dried.

DESCRIPTION: Native Mint -Prostanthera cuneata  is an attractive shrub with small soft rounded leaves that are strongly aromatic. During summer it has masses of showy white flowers, white with a purple throat.  Native mint bushes grow to 60 cm high and 1m in width.

GROWING CONDITIONS: Native Mint likes a well drained sunny position. It will grow in part shade but tends to become straggly. This shrub doesn't like wet feet . Will tolerate frosts to -8 C and periods of dryness.

FOR BEST RESULTS: Keep well pruned to promote compact growth, taking care not to cut into old wood without leaves. Feed to keep the leaves deep green and glossy with a fertilizer suitable for natives.

PLANTING IDEAS:  Use as a hedge plant or have in a pot close to the kitchen ready for use.

FAUNA:  This plant attracts small honey eater birds such as eastern spinebills.
