Apple Berry Billardiera longifolia

Apple Berries are the mountain climbers of plants. Apple Berries will climb up anything because climbing is their thing, and if they can't find anything to climb up they will climb over themselves, until they tangle themselves up in a beautiful interwoven ball. They are determined to climb just like people who see a mountain and know they have to climb to the top, because it's who they are, and this is what they do. At this time of year their climbing skills are amazing, and you will find them climbing up grasses, shrubs and tree trunks. This makes them ideal for an evergreen trellis or archway in your garden.

when in flower, Apple Berry plants are covered in masses of beautiful yellow/green bell-shaped flowers, the Taz Wild logo. These flowers turn into gorgeous glossy purple fruits which produce a heavy crop. These spectacular berries are 2cm x 1.5cm, are edible and can be eaten fresh from the plant, or stewed. They can be used in pies, tarts, or made into jellies and jams. You can add regular apples if you wish, and stew them up together for a gourmet apple crumble.

Apple Berries prefer dappled sun or shade, and will tolerate extended dry periods, but prefer some moisture. They are also extremely frost hardy. Keep your Apple Berry plants well mulched, and give them extra moisture over summer to produce an abundant crop of fleshy fruit.

Apple Berry flowers attract honeyeaters when in flower, and you may have to share your fruit crop with fruit loving birds. They love them too.
